FLEXI-GARD 500-N
CHEMICAL RESISTANT NOVOLAC EPOXY COATINGS
Description:
FLEXI-GARD 500-N
is a 100% solids, odorless, VOC-Compliant epoxy coating system designed for maximum resistance to chemical spillage and immersion, heavy industrial traffic and elevated temperatures.
FLEXI-GARD 500-N is available in clear and pigmented versions.
Advantages:
Low Viscosity:
Fluid consistency, compared to traditional novolac coatings, facilitating application at higher coverage rates.
Fast Hardening: Minimizes downtime, allowing quick return to service, and fast- tracking of multi-coat
installations.
Excellent Chemical Resistance:
Outperforms standard bisphenol A epoxy coating systems, particularly under exposure to concentrated acids, hydrocarbon solvents and hot water.
Gloss and Clarity: Excellent aesthetic results are readily achieved.

Application:
Important: Observe all recommended safety, storage and handling procedures as detailed on product label and in material safety data sheets furnished with this product.
A. Surface Preparation: Apply to clean, dry surfaces above 450F. Remove grease, oil, dirt, laitance,
curing compounds or coatings which may impair adhesion. Do not apply over previous coatings unless an adhesion/compatibility test is performed prior to application.
NOTE: Solvent-thinned formulations should not be applied over any coating or substrate which may be
attacked by solvents, such as alkyd enamel coatings or vinyl tile.
Do not apply on surfaces subject to hydrostatic or vapor pressure from the otherside, such as
slabs-on-grade lacking proper vapor barrier protection. New concrete should be cured for 28 days minimum prior to coating and should be thoroughly dry.
Perform all repairs to unsound areas and cracks prior to coating. Consult your Edison Coatings
Technical Representative for assistance in selection of the most appropriate and compatible Edison crack and floor repair product for your application.
B. Mixing & Application:
NOTE: FLEXI-GARD 500-N is a two-component system requiring mixing prior to use. Follow mixing
ratios by careful measuring, or purchase and use in premeasured units.
MIX RATIO:
|
3 Parts Resin (Part A)
|
|
1 Part Hardener (Part B) (by Volume)
|
Mix the Resin "A" and Hardener "B" compoments thoroughly, using a slow speed drill mixer (250 rpm) for at least 2 minutes.
Apply evenly using a short nap roller, or pour the mixture out onto the surface to be coated, spread by
squeegee and back-roll to a uniform film.
FLEXI-GARD 500-N should not be applied by sprayer unless a special apparatus designed to
individually meter each of the two components through a static mixing head is used (Plural component sprayer). Solvent thinned mixes, reduced to 30 - 50% solids may be applied by low pressure airless
sprayer, taking care to thoroughly flush sprayer and lines with MEK immediately after use.
For higher build systems, a second coat may be applied. Coatings which have aged more than 96
hours should be lightly sanded and solvent-wiped with MEK prior to recoating.
C. Curing & Clean-Up
Clean tools and equipment with MEK immediately after use.
CAUTION! MEK is a hazardous material. Observe all safety and handling precautions as
recommended by the solvent manufacturer.
Curing time is temperature dependent. At 750F, product will dry to touch in 4-6 hours. Light traffic time
is 8-10 hours. Normal traffic time is 24 - 48 hours. Cure may be accelerated by addition of FLASHEPOXY 586B Hardener. Add accelerator to hardener component prior to mixing with resin, and
adjust mix ratio at the following rates:
586B Use Level
|

|
8 oz. 586B/1 gal.

Temperature and humidity affect pot life, cure, handling and spreading characteristics. Consult your
Edison Coatings Technical Representative for assistance in adjusting procedures to any anticipated extremes. Avoid application of any solvent-thinned coatings at high humidity.
