About Edison Coatings, Inc....

500SFLEXI-GARD 500-S

Heavy Duty Epoxy Flooring Systems

DESCRIPTION:

FLEXI-GARD 500-S is a series of high solids, VOC-Compliant epoxy scalers and coatings designed for heavy duty protection of concrete floors and decks. Three products are included:

FLEXI-GARD 500-S is a 100% solids, low viscosity, odorless modified epoxy coating available in clear or pigmented versions. It offers very good hardness and chemical resistance and is ecommended for general use, particularly in interior applications where solvent vapors and odors cannot be tolerated. FLEXI-GARD 500-S is USDA accepted for use in incidental food contact areas in Federally inspected meat and poultry packing plants.

FLEXI-GARD 500-S 60 & 90 are solvent reduced epoxy sealers and coatings supplied at 60% and 90% solids respectively. All are formulated for D.O.T. non-flammability and V.O.C. compliance. FLEXI-GARD 500-S 60 & 90 form very hard, high gloss films which resist high traffic and a wide range of chemical exposures. They are available in standard clear or optional pigmented versions.

ADVANTAGES:

  • Ease of application by roller or appropriate spray equipment assures consistent results and high productivity.
  • Fast strength development allows minimum downtime and quick return to service, even in heavy traffic exposures.
  • High strength permits long-term performance in forklift and other vehicular traffic exposures.
  • High gloss and clarity permit the achievement of excellent aesthetic results.

IMPORTANT: OBSERVE ALL RECOMMENDED SAFETY, STORAGE AND HANDLING PROCEDURES ASDETAILED ON PRODUCT LABELS AND IN MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS FURNISHED WITH THESE PRODUCTS.

A. SURFACE PREPARATION

Apply to clean, dry surfaces above 450F. Remove grease, oil, dirt, curing compounds or other coatings which may impair adhesion. Do not apply over previous coatings unless an adhesion/compatibility test is performed prior to application. Solvent borne formulations (30/60/90) should not be applied over any coating or substrate which may be attacked by product solvents, such as alkyd enamel coatings or vinyl tile.

Do not apply on surfaces subject to hydrostatic or vapor pressure from the other side, such as slabs-on-grade lacking proper vapor barrier protection.

New concrete should be cured for 28 days prior to coating and should be thoroughly dry.

Remove all laitance, dirt or other surface coatings or contaminants by chemical or mechanical means, as required.

Perform all repairs to unsound areas and cracks prior to coating. Consult your Edison Coatings Technical Representative for assistance in selection of the most appropriate and compatible Edison crack and floor repair products for your application.

B. MIXING & APPLICATION:

NOTE: FLEXI-GARD 500-S products are two-component systems requiring mixing prior to use. Follow mixing ratios by careful measuring, or purchase and use in pre-measured units.

Product

Mix Ratio

500-S

2:1

500-S90

2:1

500-S60

4:1

All ratios are by volume.

Mix the Resin "A" and Hardener "B" comoponents thoroughly, using a slow speed drill mixer (250 rpm) for at least 2 minutes. Allow mixture to stand for 5 minutes, and then re-stir.

Apply evenly using a short nap roller, or pour the mixture out onto the surface to be coated, spread by squeegee and back roll to a uniform film.

500-S and 500-S90 should not be applied by sprayer unless a special apparatus designed to individually meter each of the two components through a static mixing head is used. 500-S60 may be applied by low pressure airless sprayer, taking care to thoroughly flush sprayer and lines with Xylene or SYSTEM 100 immediately after use.

For higher build systems, an second coat may be applied.

Coatings which have aged more than 96 hours should be lightly sanded and/or solvent-wiped prior to recoating.

C. CURING & CLEAN-UP

Clean tools and equipment with Xylene or SYSTEM 100 immeidately after use. Observe all safety and handling precautions as recommended by the solvent manufacturer.

Curing time is temperature dependent. At 750F, products will dry to touch in 4 - 6 hours. Light traffic time 8 -10 hours. Normal traffic time is 24 - 48 hours. Cure may be accelerated by addition of FLEXI-SPEED 599 at the following rates:

Product

599 Use Rate

500-S

3 - 6 ozs./gallon

500-S90

3 - 9 ozs./gallon

500-S60

2 - 6 ozs./gallon

Temperature and humidity affect cure, handlings, spreading and solvent evaporation characteristics. Consult your Edison Coatings Technical Representative for assistance in adjusting procedures to any anticipated extremes. Avoid application of any sovent borne coatings at high humidity.
